Last Cigarette

25

This is it. This is my last cigarette. Smoking is a terrible thing. Expensive, nasty, stinky. Besides all that I don’t want to be a slave to the Big Tobacco Corporations any longer! I am taking my life and lungs back! YAY! September 6, 2008: Update. I lasted until about March or April, then started smoking again. Then, on March 17th of 2008, I quit again. I am still not smoking. It is one of the most difficult drugs to ever quit. If you don’t smoke, don’t start. That way you will never have to quit. I hope I can stay quit this time around. I could not breathe in March. Breathing is essential to living. So…I had to quit.

@ThinkerResearcher Sometimes it takes several times of quitting before it actually happens for good. The best advice I can give you is keep your hands busy. Knit, crochet, underwater basket weaving etc…whatever you can do and then do a lot of it. I drank water every time I wanted a cig. Then I started waking and I would walk every time I wanted one. Do something physical t take your mind off it. If you walk or run, you will soon appreciate being a non smoker. Good luck!

ThinkerResearcher @ 12:56 pm #

i just had my last cigarette. How did you keep your mind away from it after your last ?

ecomunky @ 1:54 pm #

I went 8 hours last night without one, so I guess I could go 8 hours today . And eat in between.

@daligoddess2006 but if you no longer want or need nicotine, then cold turkey is obviously the best approach. Personally I love nicotine, always have, and it helps me in several ways, so vaping is a perfect solution for me. If you have friends having trouble going cold turkey, I’d recommend it to them. Otherwise, CONGRATS… and if you feel the urge to return to smoking again (aka fall of the wagon), which I very much hope you don’t, consider a PV instead. :)

OrthodoxAtheist @ 3:20 pm #

@daligoddess2006 :) No, its not water… what you exhale is water vapor, but what you inhale is propylene glycol. Very safe (google it) and used in about 500 things in your house right now. It actually has a drying effect, so it won’t add water to your lungs… more likely to dry you out. The FDA doesn’t like them, but for frivalous and unfounded purposes. I’ve read virtually every study on the issue.. it is as dangerous as a nicoderm path, and about 1/1000th the ‘harm’ of smoking.

@OrthodoxAtheist Thanks but ACTUALLY, I went cold turkey when I quit. I did try the vapor cigarette but as you know there hasn’t been enough research on them to tell what, if any, harmful effects they may have on the human body. PERSONALLY, I got pneumonia every winter so I worry about fluid in the lungs and that is what this cigarette is, water vapor laced with nicotine, am I correct? I don’t need nicotine anymore but I wouldn’t use this cigarette because I wouldn’t want water in my lungs.

Hopefully you’ve discovered the wonders of PV’s (personal vaporizers, aka e-cigarettes) by now. :) Most are finding it child’s play to give up cigarettes when they change to PV’s. The top forum for ‘vapers’ on the net shows an experienced 84% success rate in stopping smoking. Same nicotine but 0 tar, no 10,000 unknown chemicals, no evidence of health issues, 0 smell, 0 smoke as you exhale water vapor instead. Check it out. I started 5 weeks ago, not a single cigarette since my first vape.

@keithblabbermouth I had to quit again. I started smoking 11 months after I made this video. I now have just two months as a non smoker.

keithblabbermouth @ 6:13 pm #

daligoddess2006 @ 8:01 pm #

It was like a scene right out of the book, “The Outsiders”, which we were reading in English at the time. If I had known at the time, that it wouldn’t look “Cool” 40 years down the road and that it would possibly kill me and keep me from breathing, I would have never started smoking! HIndsight is 20/20.

daligoddess2006 @ 8:53 pm #

@fuckpennyfinders Good question! I think because I thought it “Looked Cool”. Walked into the girls bathroom at school one day and saw this blonde, “bad girl”, wearing a black leather jacket, standing near the open window, smoking. Everything about the scene burned forever into my mind. The smoke billowing out into the cold blue air behind the chick’s silhouette, her indifference as she turned to see me catch her, the casual way she shook a “Kool” to the top of the pack and offered me one.

fuckpennyfinders @ 9:33 pm #

@daligoddess2006 why did u start, was it cuz of homies, or just out of boredom

Dreamman08 @ 9:42 pm #

@daligoddess2006 I replied on the link.

daligoddess2006 @ 10:03 pm #

@Dreamman08 I posted link at the end of the video that shows what happened. All I can tell you is I hate smoking.

Dreamman08 @ 10:04 pm #

When I smoked, I could have lived on the butts in your ashtray for a week… You only smoked half the buggers…
Are you still there, trying to give them up? or are you now dead?
Don…..
I would love you to answer this comment and say you have stopped… That would be beautiful.
